Time Is Running Out and Teams Are Falling to the NIT

Sunday was the last day before conference tournaments begin, and with it, a number of teams kept their tourney hopes alive or watched them go up in smokes. See who is still alive inside.

@Indiana 72, Ohio State 64: What a lost opportunity this season has been for Ohio State. Undefeated long past the start of the season, Ohio State was a #1 seed in a lot of early brackets. But since starting 15-0, OSU has gone 7-8, losing games against good teams and not so good teams (swept by Penn State, and tough-but-winnable-by-elite-teams road games at Indiana, Nebraska, and Minnesota). With a 9-8 record in the Big Ten, OSU is clearly behind Michigan, Wisconsin, and Michigan State, and they certainly look worse than Iowa. Expect the Buckeyes' seed to drop further.

Indiana's tournament hopes are still alive, hanging by a thread. Although wins over Nebraska and at Michigan this last week might not be enough, a good showing in the Big Ten tournament could with some help get Indiana in.

Every game seems important these days. Today, several teams eliminated themselves from at-large contention and several teams kept hope alive. Some, like Southern Miss, have a good chance as long as they don't get upset the rest of the season. Some, like Marquette, are all but eliminated except in the most miraculous of situations.

Wisconsin 71, @Penn State 66
@St. John's 72, DePaul 64
@Clemson 77, Maryland 73 (OT) - MD eliminated, Clemson's hopes still alive
@George Washington 66, George Mason 58
@Villanova 73, Marquette 56 - MU eliminated or very close to it
Southern Miss 60, @Florida Atlantic 49 - So. Miss keeps its at-large hopes alive
Vermont 92, @Binghamton 82 (OT)
@Iowa 83, Purdue 76 - Iowa gets back on track but needs better wins to get good seed back
@Iona 97, Rider 81
Louisiana Tech 67 @UAB 58 - good road win for LA Tech, still on edge of bracket
New Mexico 72, @Nevada 58
@Florida State 81, Georgia Tech 71 - FSU wins must-win game for tourney hopes
@Arizona 79, Stanford 66
@UCLA 74, Oregon State 69
