Another full day of major conference tournament hoops, and another day of upsets. We start out in the ACC, where most-of-the-season favorite Syracuse fell to upstart North Carolina State, who needs to win the whole tournament to make the field. And Pittsburgh took out North Carolina after giving up a 20-point lead late.
Craziness also hit the A-10, where Saint Louis continued to look like it is in some major trouble right now after running through most of the season with a great record and some significant defensive swagger. Dayton is in trouble with regards to its at-large chances after losing to Saint Joseph's, and Massachusetts should continue to drop after losing to GW. But the most important thing out of the A-10 is that VCU still looks strong and like it could make a run in the Big Dance.
The Big 12 was marred by a couple of upsets as #4 Iowa State upended #1 Kansas and #7 Baylor took out #3 Texas. Baylor is a lock now, and Kansas's chance at a #1 seed is in question after the late season loss. An ACC or Big Ten team could take that spot Villanova gave up yesterday by winning its conference tournament.
There were major happenings in Conference USA as the top two teams, Louisiana Tech and Tulsa, advanced to the championship game. Louisiana Tech is closer to an at-large bid after beating Southern Miss, and Southern Miss may fall out of the tournament. Plus, Middle Tennessee would have given LA Tech better computer numbers than Tulsa. So at this point, we are probably looking at a one-bid conference, the cards falling very poorly for the conference.
Things got very exciting in Las Vegas, and there should be a lot of anticipation for the games tomorrow. The top seeds advanced in the Pac-12 and the MWC, so we'll see Arizona/UCLA and San Diego State/New Mexico tomorrow. Both games should be gems, one final war before the big tournament. And in the WAC, #1 seed Utah Valley lost, which knocks it to the NIT. That means New Mexico State, arguably the best team in the WAC despite its record, should be able to advance to the tourney with a win over Idaho.

Championship Saturday will put 14 more teams into the bracket with automatic bids. For those of you watching the bubble, be especially careful to watch the Southland, where Sam Houston State is a potential bid stealer, and Conference USA, which is the same for Tulsa. In the conferences ending Sunday, the bubble can shrink if NC State wins the ACC, Saint Bonaventure wins the A-10, and Georgia or Tennessee wins the SEC (though Tennessee could possibly make it as an at-large).
Enjoy Saturday. When the dust settles, only 5 games will remain between the conference tournaments and the Selection Sunday bracket show.
